This week, an agreement was reached among the NHL, National Hockey League Players Association, and International Ice Hockey Federation, allowing players to participate in the 2026 and 2030 Winter Olympic Games. This marks the first time in over a decade that NHL players will have the opportunity to compete in the Olympics, signifying a significant development for the sport.
Arizona Coyotes forward Clayton Keller shared his excitement and thoughts on the prospect of representing the United States at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milano-Cortina. Keller expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It would be amazing. Any time you can represent your country on a stage like that, it’s everything you dream about. I remember watching the games way back, Oshi in the shootout, things like that, the rivalry, seeing the best on best. I'm super excited for that.”
Keller's background includes participation in the USA Hockey National Team Development Program, featuring on two U.S. World Championship Teams, achieving a gold medal with the U.S. National Junior Team, and securing two medals with the U.S. National Under-18 Team.
In the event that Keller decides to compete in the Olympics, he would likely join a roster of highly acclaimed NHL players representing the U.S., including Auston Matthews, Matthew Tkachuk, Adam Fox, and Johnny Gaudreau, among others.
During the NHL All-Star Game festivities, Keller and Matthews discussed their unique friendship and shared training sessions during each summer, making them a notable duo for USA hockey fans to keep an eye on.
With an impressive performance of 20 goals, 25 assists, and 45 points through 48 games this season, Keller leads the Coyotes in all three statistical categories, solidifying his status as an emerging NHL superstar. The 25-year-old's potential participation could play a crucial role in the success of Team USA at the 2026 Olympic Games.
